Join us on Thursday, February 12th, from 6-8pm for the launch of LigoranoReese’s new fragrance, Deception, distilled from their public art installation Last Call – DemocracyICED of the word Democracy in ice on the National Mall last October sponsored by Up In Arms.

Kathy Brew, filmmaker, artist, curator will talk with the artists about Deception and their earlier editions from the PureproductsUSA series which often reveal truisms like the melting down of democracy and the monetization of U.S. foreign policy.

The artists collected 10 gallons of water from the 3,000 pound sculpture, decanting 33 ounces of the melted sculpture into one hundred, 100 ml bottles. “Like any perfume there are top notes, ours comes from challenged elections, voter fraud allegations, and attacks on free speech,” Ligorano says. “Its heart notes are blended from deportations, armed soldiers on city streets, defunding of public health and destruction of the social safety net. And its base notes from assaults on universities and scientific research and dismantling of public databases.”
