LORNA SIMPSON
Lorna Simpson (b. 1960, Brooklyn, New York) is an American artist known for her conceptual photography and multimedia work. She gained recognition in the 1980s for her innovative photo-text pieces, which combine images and language to explore themes of race, gender, identity, and representation—often focusing on Black women.
Her work spans photography, video, and collage, and she was the first African American woman to exhibit at the Venice Biennale in 1990. Simpson remains a leading figure in contemporary art.
