James Siena
James Siena (born 1957) is a New York–based artist known for his intricate, rule-based abstractions, which he calls “visual algorithms.” Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, Siena creates complex patterns using self-imposed systems and repetitive gestures. A graduate of Cornell University, his work has been exhibited widely and is held in major institutions such as MoMA, the Whitney, and the Met. Siena is also a dedicated educator and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
